Cara Mia's - Portabella Sandwhich

Just as Aristotle had Plato, Young had Montana, Harry had Dumbledore and Luke had Obi-Wan, I too have someone who has enlightened me about the secrets of my craft.  He has been an inspiration and a major influence in my passion for blogging about food.

Magnificently done.  The Food Reviewer is clear and to the point, without missing any of the key aspects of his review.  With his facial expressions alone I can almost taste that gusher exploding in my mouth.  Anyway, on to the review...

This morning I went to one of my favorite Saturday sandwich shops; Cara Mia's in Dunmmore.  The hours are a little strange at Cara Mia's so be sure to check if it's open.  (I am now learning that the hours are in fact:  Tue + Wed:11-3, Thur and Fri 11-7, Sat: 10-4, and Sun/M: Closed).
I usually order the Cara Mia's Classic and highly highly recommend it.  It comes with marinated roasted red papers, fresh mozzarella, and the secret ingredient a spinach and pesto mayo.  Today I decided to change it up and went for the Portabella Sandwich ($5.50) and coleslaw ($1).

Portabella Sandwich + Coleslaw
Just like everything else from Cara Mia's, the portabella mushroom and roasted red peppers were extremely  fresh.  With the sun finally coming out and the temperature rising, it felt especially nice to eat some real vegetables while avoiding a super heavy burrito or greasy slice of pizza.  Just like "the classic" the portabella sandwich came with the delicious spinach and pesto mayo.  Unfortunately, the provolone cheese didn't seem to add too much to the sandwich and I really prefer the fresh mozzarella that comes with the "classic".  Now this may be my own fault, but I found the bread a little hard and a little chewy.  I ordered the 'crispy' bread instead of my usual 'soft'.  Overall, the sandwich was pretty good, but didn't seem to live up to my high expectations.

I think the lesson to be learned and were I to have spoken to The Food Reviewer himself what he would have said is that sometimes things are "a classic" for a reason and there is no need to change it up.

Fruit Gushers are most certainly a buy and so is the Cara Mia's Classic!

  1. I really enjoy Caramia's as well. They have tasty chicken cutlet sandwiches and a free pickle with every meal! It's just getting back that's difficult with the no left signs. I usually end up getting lost.
