Green Ridge Pizza - Meatball Parm

570-344-7873
2103 Boulevard Ave Scranton, PA 18509

This establishment is located just a few blocks from my house and I was sure to try it out within a few weeks of moving in.  As you drive by this place it looks like a brick box built in the middle of an abandoned parking lot.  It looks more like a place used to store old lawn mowers and fertilizer and less like a pizza shop.  Not that this is a bad thing, just saying..Anyway, I started with the pizza and was very underwhelmed.  This was over a year ago, and I haven't ordered pizza from there since, but I remember it being square and bland. Tasted more like frozen pizza from the supermarket.  But as I said that was a long time ago and I only tried it once so take the rec'd for what its worth.  On to the main event.

Next, I tried the Meatball Parm.  This is not an order I always make, usually I prefer a Veal Parm, Eggplant Parm or Chicken Parm but decided to give it a shot.  WOW!  This little brick bunker offers the very best Meatball Parm ($5) I have ever had.  Seriously.

Starting with the bread, they really nailed it.  Far too often, a great sub is handicapped by hard bread or simply having too much bread (cough, Papas, cough).  GRP's bread is always fresh, always soft, and always delicious.  The combination of sauce, cheese and meatballs is in the perfect proportions.  This place also has a trick up its sleeve.  They slice the meatballs, that way with every bite you get some meatball.  Other places that leave the meatballs whole, you often have a few bites with tons of meatballs and then a few bites sans meatball.  It's the little things :)

I usually add a little sirach and wash it down with some Stewart's ($1.50).  This classic from Green Ridge Pizza is the perfect half-time snack and I recommend calling with 5 mins left in the 2nd quarter as to not miss the 2nd half kick off.  They are always super friendly and cheerful and even have a stacked collection of National Geographics from 1993-2001 to peruse just in case your sub is still in the oven :)

So learn about the Mbuti Pygmies, devour a delicious sub, and wash it down with a Black and Cherry.

  1. I can vouch for how delicious the subs are at this establishment. My dish of choice is the standard Meatball Sub. Perfecto.
