After receiving a glowing recommendation of Carmella's on Main street from my landlord, I decided to check it out and pick up some take out for a nice afternoon treat. As I approached the store, I took out my iPhone and quickly snapped a photo. Here is the result:
I kid....I kid. This North Jersey establishment seen above is actually Satriale's Pork Store with Tony and crew eating outside. The actual picture I took is seen below but I did smile as I entered the store as I couldn't help but be reminded of Tony's favorite sandwich shop.
I loved the vibe inside the store. It had a very authentic feel to it and with a little imagination I could picture myself back in the Trastevere neighborhood of Roma, minus the delicious gelato of course. In addition to lunch fare, they also sold deli meats, impressive Italian pastries, authentic olive oils, peppers and other Italian goods.
I decided on the pepper shooter sandwich ($5.95) which included sliced prosciutto, sharp provolone, hot Italian peppers and balsamic dressing. I also splurged and added a cup of one of the several soups they were offering that day, lobster and crab bisque ($3). The food was ready quickly and I eagerly drove home to enjoy my food.
The sandwich did not disappoint and with the hot peppers had a very nice kick to it. The soup was the highlight of the meal and I even found myself ripping off bits of the fresh bread and dipping it into the soup :) All in all, I was very pleased with Carmella's and am looking forward to trying another sandwich and perhaps some of their pastries.
Arrivederci!
Next time go for Carmella's Extravaganza!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait. It'll be interesting to see how their fresh mozzarella compares to Cara Mia's.

ReplyDeleteThat sandwich is legit. Does it come in a Passover version?
ReplyDelete@Zach it does. You just substitute the bread for matzah, the prosciutto with brisket, and the balsamic dressing with horse radish. And instead of crab and lobster bisque go with matzah ball soup. Happy pesach :)
